Sports protection set for kids: Simple 3 steps to keep them safe
Kids love to play with ride on toys. But 42% of toy related injuries are related to ride-ons. Most parents use kids harness for bike while riding two wheeler with kids. It shows how diligent we are about baby’s safety. Same way when kids enjoy riding, we should be prepared to provide best safety gears.
Kids will keep on playing whole day if you don’t ask them to stop. I believe it is not bad, my son does that and I encourage it. Play makes them strong, help them to acquire motor skills and make friends with other child. Physical play keeps them away from digital gadgets like mobile phone, TV or laptop.
I’m sure you will do everything to keep them safe and let them enjoy the rides with same age friends. Actually it is not a complex job. You need to keep tab on 2-3 points. Read on to know.
1.Use of sports protection set:
It will save your child from physical injury in most of the cases .
During fall, knee, palm or elbow usually touches the ground first. If kids don’t wear a guard, their knee, elbow or palm can be badly hit. Blood may come out, even worse bone fracture can happen. These protectors will make sure that chances of that reduces to a great extent.
Sports helmets are necessary because any blow on the head can be fatal. I don’t want to preach a lot as you all know why it is so. Make sure that your child uses helmet at least if not knee or elbow guards.
2. Stay with them during first few days of riding:
When they start riding, they will fall many times. Kids need sometime to master the art of riding the scooters or skates. It is utmost necessary to wear protection set during first few days when he/she is learning to ride new ride-ons.
It is always necessary when playing sports like skating, scooting e.t.c. As these sports demands proper balancing. If your child is playing with tricycle, push cars or swing cars then you can relax. These are manual ride-ons which make sure that speed will not be an issue. Also these toys are by design very safe.
3. Educate kids about safety norms:
Kids never like the idea of wearing a helmet or knee pad kind of things. But if parents insist, they will comply. Discuss what they should do, if anyone of them gets hurt during play. And last but not the least, keep first aid box in home.
What will you get in a sports protection set?
Usually the set comes with 5 or 7 pieces of protection gears. They are –
- One helmet
- two knee guards
- two elbow guards
- Two palm guard
You need to fasten them using valcro strap or D-ring strap. Anyway both are very easy to deal with.
To be very frank, the quality of products that you get in India is not world class. But they are good enough and comes with price tag from 500 rupees and above.
We like following protection set:
Few words about sports helmet:
Head is the most important part of your body. Hence securing it should be first priority in protection strategy. Even God understood that and tried to secure it using hard to crack skull 🙂 .
Helmet protection layers are having mainly three layers. First, the outer shell made of hard materials like abs plastic. Second, the protection layer made of high density EPS. The inner shell provide comfort with sponge.
Few words about knee guard, elbow guard and palm guard:
These guards comes in pairs. They are moulded using PE(Polyethylene) or PP(Polypropylene) materials with breathable polyester. These guards will save from fracture and reduce the friction after a fall.
What to check before buying one?
- Age group: All the protective gears need to be fit on your child. So each manufacturer or seller explicitly mentions the target age group.
- Cost: You can easily get a good quality protection set within thousand rupees. Don’t buy very cheap product, as the quality is not up to the mark.
- Brand: You can easily choose from Jaspo, Cosco, Strauss, Jern or Nivia.
The protection set saves your child from physical injury. Remember most of the time, kids play with ride ons on hard surfaces. Hence an accidental fall affects more. The impact is much much more than a fall on grass layered field.
Buy it if your child likes to play with skater, scooter or bikes. Make sure to use it at least during first few days when they start to learn other ride ons. Protection comes with less comfort. Your child needs to accept the discomfort to keep themselves safe during any unfortunate incident.
